This page will focus on GANNETT COMPANY and its connection with Topix LLC. Gannett investors should be aware that TOPIX generates no news at all, but simply attracts GOOGLE searches to its site, pulls news from legitimate news sources yet appears to have greatest popularity in its anonymous undermoderated forums. Topix makes news less reliable because it mixes user created articles (which are often totally fake, or abusive) with legitimate news. For information about why TOPIX is a problem, visit our main site here or click on the logo ------------------->
With a market cap of about 3.5 billion dollars, GANNETT barely squeezed out a profit in the fourth quarter of 2009, with a net income of $133.6 million dollars of 56 cents a share. A year earlier they lost $4.71 billion, more than their current market cap.
Gannett owns hundreds of newspapers and TV stations, including of course USA Today. All Gannett ventures, according to INVESTOR GUIDE rely on generating revenue from advertising to audiences, an increasingly difficult battle in todays world as different media sectors all compete for our attention.
What should be of interest to readers, investors and those concerned about the ethics of TOPIX.COM is that Gannett's one positive revenue sector is occurring in the digital sector. Gannett owns major interests in highly trafficked website such as USAToday.com, CareerBuilder.com, Cars.com, PointRoll.com, ShopLocal.com and of course TOPIX.
According to WIKI INVEST Gannett derived $281 million of its revenue from the digital sector. What is rather odd to us, is that that WIKIPEDIA fails to list Topix as one of GANNETTs digital holdings (though we may just fix that).
In spite of increases from the digital sector, Forbes Magazine reported last month (March 2011) that Citi Investments has downgraded GANNETT stock.
